It has been a few days since I posted here. The weather in NJ has improved since it isn’t raining. There are scattered clouds and then stretches of beautiful sunshine. The temperatures are cooler now, reminding me of the Denver area. I awoke with temperatures in the 50s and now it is warming up into the 70s. I’m hoping it will get warmer before I begin my journey West so that I can get in a great day or two at the beach.
I have spent time with all of my nephews on this visit so far. So, these past few days I have been visiting with some of my nieces. My youngest niece and I played with my camera so she could see herself “on TV” since I plugged it in for viewing slideshows. Last night I took three other nieces out for a nice dinner. They all grow up so fast, especially since I usually only see them about once a year.
I have not driven the Tesla much lately, but today I have some errands to run. Also, I look forward to heading back to the Hamilton supercharger soon while visiting a friend who lives only 8 miles away from it. One problem I need to look into is this: after the rains, when I opened the hatch in the back, a LOT of water began dripping out of the hatch and into the car!! This didn’t happen in California because we’ve been in a drought (and the car is parked overnight in a garage). So, hopefully the service department of Tesla will help me resolve this. I’ll let you know how it goes. Frugal Tesla
May you have a great and speedy resolution for your car… Frugal Tesla
FT: Man the bilge pumps! Seriously, it sounds like the Tesla dealership needs to fix this soon. If it ever rains again in California, you might be looking at having an interior swimming pool in your car. Not a good thing. Have fun with the family and enjoy the trip across the country.
Yes Ernie, I definitely need to get something sealed properly. The water is pooling inside the hatch, like behind the lights or something, but when I open it up the water pours out through some of the openings and into the back of the car. Hopefully it is a simple gasket or whatever that can be lined up and tightened. See you in August, Frugal Tesla
I’ll include you in my prayers tomorrow that the water intrusion be solved ASAP! Great news about you seeing your mom and nieces altogether. Enjoy your travel! We look forward to having you back in California safe and sound, Frugaltesla…..O&O
Thanks O & O, Prayers are always greatly appreciated. Good luck with all of the club planning. I am working on things from my end while in NJ. See you in August, Frugal Tesla
Just arrived having started with the first post, and wondered where the next day’s post was. Doh!

The way to read the blog from the beginning means going to the archives and starting with June. That is when the journey began. This is my first blog so I am learning slowly. I hope to add a photo or more later this week, if it is possible. Welcome to the blog and I appreciate your comments and proof reading! Frugal Tesla
Yes, I’d begun all the way back. Was just startled to bump into “present time”!! Have you found the Rent-a-Dog outlet yet? I seem to recall seeing a writeup of such an outfit. Not sure if it was local or Chinese or Japanese, though.
Hi Frugaltesla,
I just met you at a supercharger station (Newark, DE?) I was in a red Tesla and we chatted for a while. I really like your chocolate brown!
Anyway, I arrived home in Newton, MA safely on Sunday.
Good luck and have fun with the rest of your trip!
Alex
Actually I think I met you at the Hamilton Marketplace charger, just behind Barnes & Noble!
Yes Alex, It was in NJ since I am visiting with my Mom at the Jersey Shore. Glad to see that you made it home to MA! Welcome to the blog, Frugal Tesla
Saw your entry in the Tesla Model S forum and realized that you made much the same trip that my wife and I made in May 2014 in our 60 and recorded at http://www.weightman.us/blog
We too had just downloaded WordPress and begun blogging for the trip. Our trip took 6 wks and included returning via the Southern route, without Superchargers.
Anyway, it was really fun to relive our trip by reading your adventures across the country. We too, found the Crazy Horse Memorial to be more interesting than Mt. Rushmore. Actually, we had 6 miles left when we arrived in Lusk, WY and really pushed the limit throughout our trip.
Of course, my wife insisted we stay in a hotel nightly – La Quinta because we had our dog and they are pet friendly.
I found 295 in New Jersey is just as good as the tollway and would travel it in future trips east. Really didn’t like the expensive tolls in PA, but was able to avoid most of them in MD.
Hello Craig, Thanks for commenting here! I just began checking out the Tesla forum for the first time this past week so I definitely saw your posts there. I am amazed at your blog complete with photos. I will continue to try to figure out this blog thing and maybe I will be able to add some photos soon. But, I don’t think I can do that unless I am at a desktop computer. I don’t own a laptop or smart phone, so it is a bit tricky for me. I hope you will continue to enjoy the saga of my return trip… coming soon! Perhaps you can let your blog readers know about my blog too. Best wishes, Frugal Tesla
