I drove through horrible traffic, all stop and go, past Chicago. I stopped to view Lake Michigan in Highland Park, IL. Also at the beach there were Bobby and Zach, two ambulance drivers who had the same idea as I… to enjoy the lake view while the sun was shining. Throughout this day there were scattered showers, so this stretch of sunshine was appreciated! Here my odometer was at 20,616 temp at 77 degrees and 90 miles of range at 4:32pm (central daylight time so I gained back an extra hour)
I exited the state of Illinois and found the Pleasant Prairie Premium Outlets in Wisconsin. It was 5:36pm, 62 range remained, and odometer was 20,644 with temp of 86 degrees. I charted a course for Mauston, WI and was ready to go when a black P85+ Tesla pulled in. Paul and his kids (Will, Anna, and Grace) from Illinois were using a supercharger for the first time ever with the car that they had for about 6 months. We talked briefly and took photos of the huge rainbow that crossed the sky. I left at 7:15pm with 204 range.
I arrived in Mauston, WI at the superchargers behind Culvers at 10:25pm. I treated myself to a small vanilla ice cream cone ($2) since they were open until 11pm. The odometer was at 20,810 with 58 miles range remaining and temp at 73 degrees. I reviewed directions to Onalaska, WI and typed this post. Range is at 195 and it is 11:26pm. It is time to seek a rest stop. Until tomorrow, Frugal Tesla
I’m enjoying the trip’s blog and am glad that you’re getting time to visit sites across the country. If it’s not too late and you have time, I recommend stopping at this unique Level Two charging oasis in Western Minnesota:

Hi Al, Nice to hear from you. I cannot seem to get the link to open, so I have no idea where the level 2 charger is that you refer to. I am in Albert Lea, MN now and plan to head to Worthington, MN soon. Quick blog update then gotta run! Frugal Tesla
It’s in Minnesota, near the South Dakota border. About six miles South of 90, between Worthington and Mitchell.
It offers the rare chance to have your Tesla meet a 1930s electric car (originally gas, converted to electric 10-15 years ago I think).
Oh well, I did not get this comment until now and I am already charging in Mitchell. You are right, Al. That will be a definite stop on my next trip out here. Thanks for letting all the blog readers know about it! Frugal Tesla
Hello FT,
That is a standard plugshare link that has worked in tests in various browsers under Android or Windows 7.
However, I now see that it doesn’t work in the Tesla browser. When you connect from there, Plugshare forcibly redirects you to their tesla.plugshare.com site, blowing up the link. Oh well, it’s the least of “technological” problems!
Yes, relying on the touchscreen can be a challenge for many websites. They all say to update the browser!?? Frugal Tesla
